Function

1. Reduce spinal pressure

The biggest drawback of straight bar hard pull and barbell back squat is a lot of pressure on the lumbar spine. Both exercises force the weight to be at a certain distance from the axis of rotation (i.e. hip), so the weight can only be lifted by the action of the back. As a result, your training weight is limited to your back stretcher's ability to resist flexion, not your legs' ability to generate maximum strength.

Because the hexagonal barbell allows you to stand inside rather than behind, the lever is shortened along the horizontal axis, greatly reducing the shear force on the spine.

  2. More explosive power

Some studies have pointed out that the hexagonal barbell is not only safer than the straight bar version, but also more effective in establishing the maximum explosive force.

It is pointed out that after different load tests, the hexagonal barbell produces significantly higher peak force, speed and explosive force than the straight bar. Because explosive power is power times speed, this means that hexagonal barbells allow you to lift faster and more weight over a certain distance.

In addition, the peak of explosive force measured with a hexagonal barbell is equivalent to that of a weightlifting action, such as a somersault. This is a key message for seeking a high-efficiency, low-cost (for time and potential damage) exercises to improve maximum explosive power.

  3. Better for beginners

For most people, making a good hard pull with a straight bar is a huge challenge and requires a lot of coaching and mobility training.

Hexagonal barbells allow a more upright torso position, allowing you to "sit" into motion, much less demanding than traditional straight bar locking techniques. It also allows the knees to move forward and the hips are lower than normal, preventing the barbell from rubbing against your calf at the bottom of the action.

The only potential drawback is that at the top of the action, the last stage of hip locking. In the straight bar locking, the hip is basically pressed against the barbell to prevent over extension of the back, but there is no such stopping mechanism in the hexagonal barbell. But this problem can be solved easily

Advantages

1. Hexagonal Anti-rolling and stable

Hexagonal makes it not easy to roll away, which is more safe then round head.

Compared with the round head dumbbell, the hexagonal coated dumbbell has a larger contact area with the floor. So it's more stable.

     2.  Can be used as armrest

The hexagonal dumbbell can be used as an armrest. For example, if there is no handle when the arm straight and stretches, it can be done by grasping the hexagonal dumbbell. This can reduce the pressure of self-weight on the wrist, of course, if your wrist is straight. Of course, push-ups are the same, there is also a push-up action is dumbbell rowing, but also round dumbbell cannot be replaced.

     3. Safer for the back.

When doing the straight bar hard pull, we will try to keep the barbell close to the body to reduce the pressure on the back, while the hexagonal  barbell allows us to keep a good posture in the frame, and the way of side grabbing the bar can also avoid unnecessary strain or other sports injury to the lower back.
